The shame of Egypt: Why you should boycott Egyptian products
Today an Egyptian court in Alexandria convicted the blogger Abdel Kareem Nabil to four years in prison for offending religion and insulting president Mubarak. The sentence shames Egypt and strengthens the world’s perception of President Hosni Mubarak as the president of a banana republic. For too long the world has kept quiet on the serious injustice of Egyptian government. People are imprisoned, tortured and suppressed, only on the basis of their political views. The disgraceful sentencing of Abdel Kareem Nabil will be the turning point. It is time for the Egytian government to introduce human rights reforms and protect freedom of speech.
